Girders are the sections that are placed on top of the load bearing pillars of a bridge. These girders carry the load of the roads and vehicles on top and transfer them to the pillars. Girders are usually cast in a yard and then transported to the bridge construction site to be erected on top of the pillars. These are called Precast Girders. The same method is used for construction of Road Bridges as well as Bridges of Metro Rail in cities.

 These girders are extremely heavy in weight ranging from 70 Tons to 180 Tons per girder and have a huge span ranging anywhere between 40 to 150 feet. Such long and heavy girders require specialised equipment for transportation called Hydraulic Modular Axle Trailers to ensure its safe delivery. These trailers are modular in nature and enable us to combine rows of axles to increase the payload capacity as per requirement. There are several attachments available to handle special cases like

1. Spacer: These are frames that can be attached in between two sets of Hydraulic Modular Trailers, thereby extending the length without changing the payload capacity.
2. Bolster: These are turntable type of mechanism that allows the girder to pivot about the Hydraulic Trailer, thereby increasing the maneuverability of the trailer. This comes in handy when the route has some tight turns which would be impossible to execute without pivoting the cargo and thereby reducing the turning radius of the vehicle.
3. Telescopic Trailer: These trailers have variable length. Like a telescope the body of the trailer can be extended or contracted with minimal hassle as per requirement. These are ideal for transporting girders of varying sizes using the same equipment. Telescopic option is available in both Hydraulic as well as mechanical trailers.
